New software offers pipeline integrity management and right of way acquisition data management solutions
The software division of Atlanta's Diversified Energy Services has developed two new software applications, one for Pipeline Integrity Management and another for right of way and land acquisition data management.


/Electrical News Articles/ - ATLANTA, GA, February 26, 2008 - Diversified Energy Software Solutions (DESS), software writers have completed enhancement of an earlier version of DESS's Pipeline Integrity Management Software. DESS engineers are currently demonstrating capabilities of the updated application to pipeline operators.

According to Diversified Energy Services Chairman Charles Moore, DESS currently features a suite of pipeline management applications designed to go on top of the PODS Association, Inc. data model. The PODS data model is designed to maintain pipeline data standards and data interchange standards throughout the pipeline industry, and DESS pipeline management solutions can integrate with existing PODS implementations.

"DESS Pipeline Management Solutions are especially well suited for managing various compulsory elements of 49 CFR Part 192 & 49 CFR Part 195, especially those specified under section 192.911 of Subpart O, 'Pipeline Integrity Management' and further detailed under ASME/ANSI B31.8S," Moore said.

DESS Pipeline Management Solutions can accommodate elements such as Leakage Surveys, Physical Surveys, ILI Surveys, Maintenance Records, Direct Assessments, High Consequence Area (HCA) Management, Change Management, Threat Identification, and others.

The flagship of the Pipeline Management Solutions suite, Moore said, is the Pipeline Infrastructure Management - PODS Editor. The application is web-based, compliant with the Pipeline Open Data Standard (PODS) version 3.2, and is capable of utilizing either the Oracle or Microsoft SQL Server Database Management Engine platform. The application optionally interfaces with existing GIS implementations by linking and interacting in real-time with Enterprise GIS agents such as ArcGIS Server and ArcIMS without requiring external GIS agent dependencies.

In addition to its Pipeline Integrity Management Software program, Diversified Energy Software Solutions has developed a Right of Way and Land Acquisition Data Management application for use by pipeline operators, electric utility operating companies, telecommunications operating companies and governmental agencies. Managers responsible for right of way records are reporting significant cost and time savings using new DeSoftSol Right of Way Acquisition Management Solution (AMS) software - and those savings are coming within weeks of starting use.

Managers say the ease with which the AMS software reports project/tract vital information in real time produces the savings. Without DeSoftSol's AMS, items such as agent-owner contact, negotiation status, agent activity, conflicts & issues, condemnation proceedings and project financials are collected and reported weekly, requiring agents and other personnel to spend as much as one day a week gathering, compiling, and preparing reports for project management.

Now, with AMS, project managers and administrators are able to view acquisition vitals in real time and on demand, which effectively frees acquisition agents to spend more time in the field.

One manager said, "...having [acquisition] information in real-time means I can address an issue as it occurs rather than after it escalates into a real problem a week from now." Another expressed how handy AMS is for assessing agent productivity, especially when dealing with contractors. "Now I can see which agents are producing and which are not simply by view agent activity with the AMS. If I notice a particular agent consistently not contacting property owners on Mondays and Fridays, then maybe we need to have a talk," he said
